Member-only story
What structures do we forget, and what stories do they tell?
Of the structures of old we do not speak,
for it would hurt our insight
over what’s right and wrong
in this island of gold-green tainted colors.
Gone are the roman roads
or the Lusignan castles
that so proudly decorated the cities of old.
Gone is the rooster’s call in the village mornings,
along with the barking dogs that accompany the eerie winter solitude.
All but the cats have gone astray;
Beckoning us in a silent period where castles are stones
set in blood and apathy,
and roads are pebbles set flimsily.
Though my happiness lies with those
who still remember that should one erase all earthly constructions
stones and pebbles will remain,
intact amidst the passage of time.
