Eleftheria

Dedicated to Maria Syglitiki.

Drawing of Maria Syglitiki :)

I dread to think of what Maria felt at that moment.

When the sight of a few adults begged her to stop

but the heart of all begged her to lit them at once.

They begged her in a last effort to cry out,

to shout at the top of their lungs that this is all they can give.

Nor wealth, nor status, not beliefs.

A mere life that is so easily expendable,

Yet so precious.

Eleftheria

Their hearts cried out in agony, in joy, in pleasure and ecstasy.

Blessed be they forever, blessed be their wills.

For in the face of danger they prevailed.

They screamed out crying, not whining,

Eleftheria I Thanatos

In a fiery display they went out prideful and virtuous,

carving their names in the pantheon of heroes.

So, cry out.

You, who remain under chains,

you who suffer in agony and in poverty,

you who suffer under the oppressor’s boot.

Do not fret in the misery of tomorrow,
