What has the world come down to?

Anthropocene

I heard them call it, and wept.

In a mindless society where culture is forgotten

for the sake of globality,

and individuality is lost in the mist of life

bidding the will of the powerful.

Confused as we are,

we condemn those different than us

and criticize those of the same,

philosophizing over which is which

in this Anthropocene age.

Scorched earth and mutilated bodies

all for the sake of the endless grind of a mill we haven’t seen,

for wheat we shall never bake,

but merely sprinkle above the seven toasts we bake from dawn till dusk.

Dante would laugh at our ignorant undoing

and I daresay,

Niccolò weeps at what lies beyond our Heraclitan columns,

for they both know we lost it.

We lost the very essence of what makes us humans,

anthropoi.

Thus, marking this as the age of Apanthropoi.

Apanthropocene.
